September 7, 2010:  The Avengers had a good turnout for our first regular meeting since June.
It helped to have a good speaker and a great meal!

Past Commander John Sharrett of the Stonewall Camp #380 in Portsmouth gave a wonderful slide presentation this evening showing Confederate monuments in the local area.  This is part of his series of presentations showing all known Confederate monuments throughout Virginia.  He was assisted by his wife, Becky, who is a member of the U.D.C.

The Isle of Wight Avengers held its annual picnic on Monday, July 5, 2010 at the Club House.
Those of you who couldn't attend missed out on a great meal and even better conversation!
Thanks to Joe Epps who did a great job cooking on the grill.

June 5, 2010:  The Avengers went to Pamplin Park in Petersburg
where the Yankee break through took place on April 2, 1865.
Eric Slaughter, dressed as a Confederate soldier, showed us how to
load and fire an Enfield.  He also pointed out many features of the Park

The Isle of Wight Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy #699 held a
Memorial Day Service at Ivy Hill Cemetery on Thursday May 27th.
The service took place where the UDC memorial is at the front.
Dedicated members of the Isle of Wight Avengers Camp joined this ceremony.

May 4, 2010:  Mrs. Billie Earnest was our special guest speaker.  She was accompanied
by her husband and Chief of Heritage Defense, Commander B. Frank Earnest.
This wonderful presentation was about Gen. George E. Pickett and his wife Sallie Ann Corbell.

Before our May 4th meeting began, Chuck Griffin (center) chatted with friends Dwight Doggett and Jed Dashiell.                                        In the business portion of the meeting, Chuck was voted on for membership and approved.

On April 6, 2010 Lt. Cdr. Buddy Jones (center) and Cdr. Tony Griffin inducted Roland Harris into the Avengers Camp!

April 6, 2010:  Past Commander John Pelletier of the Norfolk County Grays Camp #1549 spoke to the Avengers about Civil
War medical techniques, and how limited the doctors were in terms of knowledge of germs. There were very few pain killers available in that era, and no antibiotics.  More soldiers died of disease than wounds from battle!  Cdr. Pelletier brought his authentic medical kit for all to view.

March 2, 2010: Cdr. John Sharrett of the Stonewall Camp #380 presented a very interesting slide show
of Confederate monuments.  We hope that John publishes a book with his vast collection of pictures.

Our regularly scheduled meeting on February 2, 2010 was cancelled at the last moment
due to severe weather and road conditions.
